All about my new EXTENSIONS!
Being in the hair industry, I have been around all kinds of extensions. I've tried both tape-ins + clip-ins, and I really do love both kinds! But with being a new mom, I knew I wouldn't feel like getting my tape-ins redone every 10 weeks. I have tried a few clip-in brands but never truly found the perfect set, and also despite being a hairdresser, I could NEVER find a perfect color match. I am a very impulsive buyer, and the other day I decided I wanted to play around with longer hair again without the commitment of tape-ins, so I drove to my local Sally's. It's been years since I've tried to use extensions from Sally's (they're typically not even close to good quality) but I was surprised when I saw they had added a few new brands to their selection. I decided to grab some and give them a go!
The BRAND I chose:
I decided to try the brand "Barely Xtensions" - Ultra Seamless

I got two bundles because my hair is a tad thicker (thank you prenatal vitamins)
My favorite thing about this brand is how small the wefts and clips are, hence the name "ultra seamless" - they are far from bulky and very comfortable to wear!

Deciding what LENGTH you want:
I wanted to notice a pretty significant length difference, so I went with a pack of 20" extensions. I also got this length because I knew when my coworker cut/blended them to my hair, they would lose about an inch or so of length in the process. Extensions usually come in 12', 14', 16', 18', 20', 22' so on and so forth.
How to decide how MANY bundles are needed:
Deciding how many bundles of extensions you need can be difficult. I knew I needed two because of my hair density + I wanted to add length. If your hair is already long, and you're just looking to add volume, one bundle should suffice. If your hair is shorter, and you're wanting to add length + volume, two or more will be needed.
COLOR matching:
Just like your real hair, lighting will change how extensions look. To find the best and most accurate color match, take the extensions (or a swatch of the hair) and hold it up to your hair in natural lighting by a window, or even outside. I know it sounds backwards, but an overcast sky will give you the most accurate lighting.
I got mine in the color "Dark Blonde Frost"
Placement:
This was the best diagram I could find without making my own (I'm not THAT tech savvy) The way you place your extensions will vary from head to head, but this is prettttty close to how I do it. The main thing you want to make sure of is your hair is blended, and the wefts are hidden! Tip: Slightly tease the hair at the part line to ensure the clips are nice and secure!
Styling:
I highly recommend taking your clip ins to your salon and having your stylist blend them to your natural hair. Clip ins come all the same length, and can look wonky when freshly placed in your hair. Having a stylist blend them/cut corners will help make them look more natural!
I have found curling the extensions helps give them the most natural look as well. I never wear my extensions straight, nor do I really wear my normal hair straight. Using a wand/curling iron to give your extensions some texture is your best bet in making sure they look their best!
