"A woman who cuts her hair..."
We all know that cliche saying- "A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life."
And as a hairdresser, I can attest that it is actually very true.
I know you may be reading this thinking "it's just hair." And technically, yes, it is just hair.
But at the same time, it is much much more than that.
I have had women of all different backgrounds, with different stories of why they're cutting their hair sit in my chair. The list reads as this:
- Break-up
- Divorce
- Motherhood
- Post-wedding
- Starting college
- Weight loss
- Sobriety
We as women see our hair as more than just hair. It is the part of our body we use to identify ourselves, times in our lives, and how we are feeling. Society has sort of trained our brains to believe long hair is sexier, makes you more feminine, or makes you more attractive. To me, there's nothing "sexier" than a woman deciding to do what she wants to do with her hair- and her life in general!
Every time, and I mean every single time, I am given a story as to why they are choosing to let go of those inches they've clung to for years. Some stories make me extremely excited, and others are harder to listen to- but nevertheless I am honored to be the one to help said girl in being her first step to changing + taking control of her life.
I'm not sure what it is- but it sure is a beautiful thing. If you've been going through it, and feel inspired to just chop it off- OR even color your hair different- what's holding you back? Look deeper into your inner self and ask yourself if your hair is your security blanket- And if so, what's stopping you from taking it off?
